The goal of the doctoral program is to train students to become both skilled scholars and conscientious teachers. Throughout the program students work with advisors and other faculty members as they engage in coursework, prepare for and take the general exam, work as teaching fellows, and research and write the dissertation.
In addition to offering the PhD in several geographically defined and transnational fields of historical study, the department offers structured joint degree programs in History and Women’s Studies, and the Interdepartmental Program in Greek and Roman History (IPGRH). Students may also initiate a custom program through the graduate school’s Student Initiated Degree Program.
Theoretically sophisticated, comparative, and interdisciplinary approaches are a hallmark of the doctoral program at the University of Chicago. Doctorate in History The Department of History at Oklahoma State University grants degrees in numerous research fields at both the M.A. and PhD level. Our graduate program is especially strong in Native American history, public history, history of religion, race and ethnicity, women and gender, and war and society.
